Primary Research

Learning about customers never stops.

At Skyward, I got the chance to lead much of our research with my design manager and research extraordinaire, Leah Brady. Here are a few of the larger research projects I contributed to

Customer Advisory Board

The design team led a two day panel with customers.

Goals:

  • Identify and prioritize customer needs

  • Get access to users for testing

My role:

  • User researcher

  • Moderator

  • Note taker

  • Synthesis

  • Customer typing

Encoding and Synthesis

I synthesized the data (from transcripts, notes and design exercises into 7 categories. Then, organized them into data pools.

Synthesis with Leah Brady.

Quant + Qual!

Organized data pools with quantitative values associated with each need in a spreadsheet.

Journey mapping and Recommendations

In the end, we recommended a clear path to solving end-to-end workflows for the highest value target audience.

Product Strategy

Our design team of four went heads down into product strategy.

We conducted design thinking exercises with stakeholders from every department.

Goal:

  • Capture our company vision

  • Translate vision into a strategy

  • Establish alignment & build enthusiasm

My role:

  • Design research planning

  • Leading design thinking exercises with functional teams

  • Documentation

  • Synthesis

Sink or Swim Exercise

Brought in leads from each cross-functional team to see what tactics they thought would succeed in the future. As the likelyhood of success goes up, so does your boat.
